Adam Sandler Confirms "Happy Gilmore 2" Production Kickoff: A Legendary Return to the Green

Adam Sandler has officially announced that the production of "Happy Gilmore 2" has begun. In this Netflix sequel, Sandler will once again play his famous character, Happy Gilmore, a former hockey player turned surprise golf sensation. The new movie is being directed by Kyle Newacheck, known for his work on *Murder Mystery*. The script was written by Sandler and Tim Herlihy, who have worked together on many of Sandler's previous films.

On Monday, which also happened to be Sandler’s 58th birthday, he shared a behind-the-scenes photo on Instagram, showing the Boston Bruins hockey jersey his character wore in the first movie. He captioned the photo with, "It ain’t over. The way I see it… we’ve only just begun." Netflix also confirmed the news by posting the same photo on their social media.

While details about the storyline have not been released yet, Sandler has shared his excitement about returning to this character. In interviews, he mentioned that the idea for the sequel developed over time as he and Herlihy discussed different scenes and worked on the story. He is confident about the film and looks forward to its release.

Christopher McDonald will return as Shooter McGavin, Happy’s rival from the first movie. Sandler also revealed that Benny Safdie will have a role in the sequel, and NFL star Travis Kelce will make a cameo appearance.

Earlier this year, McDonald hinted that a sequel was being planned during a radio interview. A few months later, Netflix made it official by announcing that "Happy Gilmore" would return in a new film.
